Brief Instruction of Airlock
Airlock is an important device for pneumatic conveying and dust removal. The main usage of airlock is to timely and constantly unload the material from discharger or dust collector, and to prevent the outside air from entering the discharger or dust collector. Airlock can handle materials in powder, pellet, flake shapes and also fiber materials. And at the same time, airlock is widely used in rice milling, powder, animal feed, machinery, chemical engineering, medicine, tobacco, metallurgy and cement making, dust removal and many other industries.
Structure and Working principle of Airlock
This airlock is a kind of improved impeller open type airlock. It is a discharging machine structured with impeller, bearing, oil seal, airlock shell, end cover and other spare parts. On the top of the airlock there is flange connected with the unload opening of discharger to receive the material from discharger, and then unload material from the bottom of airlock while impeller rotating. The impeller is open type, which can prevent material from blocking as well as reduce airlock weight and shape.
Model Selection for Airlock and Using Form
Model selection basis for airlock:
1. Material granularity (powder or granule);
2. Material viscosity(water or other liquids included);
3. Material pH value(may select common material or stainless steel with different properties);
4. Material temperature(select external type airlock if above 60°C);
5. Material handling capacity(Theoretical calculation of volume×1.2).
Using form for airlock:
Independent work by single airlock( transmission by belt, chain or direct coupling), multi-machine series and in parallel. No more than 5 airlocks in one unit when working by multi-machine in series or in parallel. The length of tandem shaft coupling and the height of bracket can be decided by users.
Installation and Use for airlock
Before installation airlock must be carefully examined to make sure the impeller rotates flexibly and that relevant connecting parts reliable and correct. Then fix the airlock on the floor or the bracket. Add full oil according to the using instructions if there is a reducer (3# Lithium-based lubricant). If a combination of airlocks is used, there must be overload and short-circuit protection devices in order to prevent the damage of motor.
Before feeding, airlock with separate power must be turned on before host machine, while airlock without separate power should be turned on with host machine at the same time. And airlock should be shut down after discharging of raw material.
Always pay attention to the observing window to see whether material flow is normal or not while running the airlock. Timely treatment if accumulation.
Daily Maintenance and Repair for Airlock
1. Lubrication
While installation of reducer for airlock driving, the added lubricant should be fully unloaded one month later and add the new lubricant. Regular check for oil level keep. Lubrication for airlock bearings can be done when equipment maintenance.
2. Lutation
Both ends of the viewing window of airlock are U type rubber sealing rings,and they should be replaced immediately if damaged.
Oil seal is for the lutation of impeller shaft and end cover, which should be always checked. It should be replaced immediately if damage, otherwise the material will enter into the rolling bearing and thus cause bearing damage. Users are advised to choose airlock with double oil seal and discharge opening.
Lutation between impeller and airlock shell is the key point of airlock. If the other place does not leak but material accumulation happens, it is mostly because of the abrasion between the impeller outer diameter and the inside holes of the device shell. In this caseusers shouldreplace immediately.
3. Teardown and Maintenance
Correct methods for airlock teardown:
1. Tear down by bolt;
2. Tear down by hammer. Remember to put copper bar or wood blocks on spindle head or end cover when teardown.
When replacing, first clean the end cover, then fit the airlockwith the same specifications of the oil seal and bearing. There must be full lubricating oil.
